Dutch paintings
For 500 years British monarchs have collected Dutch paintings from the Golden Age of the seventeenth century. This short film tells the story of their changing fortunes; from the works by Rembrandt and others sold after Charles I’s execution, to the great restoration of art under Charles II, and the passionate collecting of George IV. It also tells the intriguing tale of a once misattributed and unappreciated painting that is now celebrated as one of the greatest masterpieces by Vermeer.
