Engaging and teaching young people through workshops

The Imperial War Museum London ran a series of projects to engage young people aged 14-19 with the First World War galleries during their re-development.

The museum worked with Chocolate Films Workshops to create a large-scale animation project called ‘New Perspectives’ which taught valuable media skills to young people, and encouraged them to learn about lesser known aspects of the First World War.

Documenting an award winning project

The project resulted in all 22 of the young peoples’ films being installed in the permanent First World War exhibition. New Perspectives won ‘Best Educational Initiative’ at the 2015 Museums and Heritage Awards.

This film documents the workshop and includes interviews with the children and members of staff, who explain more about the project and the impact it had. The film also incorporates stop motion animation, which the young people were taught how to do by filmmakers from Chocolate Films.
